Why I Started The Human Side of Leadership

For more than 25 years, I’ve worked in learning, leadership development, onboarding, talent development, and organizational change.

But this podcast isn’t about training programs.

It’s about people.

I started my career at 18 years old. Like many people, I didn’t have a roadmap. I went straight into the workforce and learned by doing. Work became my classroom.

Over the years, I’ve experienced successes and setbacks, promotions and disappointments, great leaders and difficult ones. I’ve navigated uncertainty, change, and moments when I questioned whether I belonged.

Like many people balancing work and life, my learning didn’t stop when I left school.

While raising my sons, going through a divorce, and working full-time, I completed an Adult Education Certificate at College. That’s when I discovered adult learning theory and realized something important:  Adults don’t learn because someone tells them to.

They learn because life requires it.

  • We learn through experience.
  • We learn through mistakes.
  • We learn through conversations.
  • We learn through reflection.
  • And most importantly, we learn through people.

As my career evolved, I had the opportunity to support leaders, managers, and teams across different organizations. No matter the industry, I noticed the same challenges appearing again and again.

People wanted to grow but didn’t know where to start.

Managers wanted to lead but weren’t always given the tools.

Employees wanted honest conversations but didn’t always feel safe having them.

Organizations wanted engagement, collaboration, and innovation but sometimes struggled to create the conditions that make those things possible.

Through my work with Bridlewood Professional Development, I’ve had the privilege of helping individuals, leaders, and organizations learn, grow, and navigate change. What I’ve learned is that leadership development isn’t just about building skills. It’s about building confidence, self-awareness, relationships, and trust.

This podcast is an extension of that work.

It’s a place where learning meets leadership.

A place where real conversations lead to real growth.

And a place where we can explore not only how to lead others, but how to lead ourselves.

That’s why I created The Human Side of Leadership. Podcast Series

This isn’t a podcast about having all the answers.

It’s a podcast about having the conversations.

The conversations we don’t always have at work.

The conversations about leadership, confidence, communication, burnout, workplace politics, career growth, imposter syndrome, learning, change, relationships, and what it really means to work with other human beings.

Because leadership isn’t just about leading people.

  • It’s about understanding yourself.
  • How you communicate.
  • How you show up.
  • How you build trust.
  • How you handle conflict.
  • How you create an environment where people can do their best work.

Whether you’re an employee, a new manager, an experienced leader, or someone trying to figure out your next career move, I hope this podcast becomes a place where you feel seen, heard, and understood.

Think of this as the workplace water cooler.

  • A place where we can talk openly.
  • A place where we can challenge ideas respectfully.
  • A place where we can learn from each other’s experiences.
  • A place where we can make sense of the realities of work and leadership together.

My goal isn’t to tell you what to think.

My goal is to create space for honest conversations, shared experiences, and practical insights that help us all grow.

And maybe, together, we can make “the office” a little less confusing, a little less political, and a little more human.

Welcome to The Human Side of Leadership.

I’m Paula Manolakakis.

Let’s start the conversation.
